Taking on the trails
While running a half marathon or a full marathon on the trails rather than on the roads might seem a little unorthodox to some, Haulin' Aspen is not the only race of its kind.
Far from it, actually. Hundreds of trail runs of varying distances are held across the country, and some, called ultramarathons, are even longer than the marathon distance of 26.2 miles.
In fact, Central Oregon will play host to an ultramarathon race later this year: the second annual Flagline 50K (31 miles), which will serve as the USA Track & Field 50-kilometer Trail Championships for the second consecutive year. The race, part of the Flagline Trailfest, will be staged Sept. 24 on the Flagline Trail and other trails near Mount Bachelor, starting from Dutchman Sno-park. Kami Semick is the reigning women's champion, and Max King placed second a year ago. Both runners are Bend residents.
The other three races that round out the Flagline Trailfest will all make their debuts this year. They are the Bachelor Butte Trail Half, the Cinder Cone Trail 5K and the Kids Trail Fox 1,500 (meters). All three races, also slated for Sept. 24, will start at the West Village Lodge at Mt. Bachelor ski area.
While Central Oregon is renowned for its trail-running opportunities, the rest of the state is not exactly lacking. For those who might like to hop into a 2011 trail race staged elsewhere in Oregon, the Lithia Loop Trail Marathon a few hours to the south might fit the bill. The Ashland race, with an elevation change of about 9,200 feet, will test the mettle of almost any competitor. This year's edition will take place Nov. 5.

Report Timothy lake OR
I have never fished timothy for a good reason to many tiny planters and very few hold overs and the lake is deeper then others in the area so doesn't fish with flies well . my favorite lake on mount hood area for easy fly fishing is trillium has some brooks and very shallow for getting flies down to any fish thats in it ! more hold overs and they plant bigger brood stock fish to some 6 pounds . great float tube and toon boat , has boat ramp for drift boats also - no motors . then there is clear lake . fish them all early because they get killed very fast ! it took longer to start fishing these this year so it should still be fishing good . timothy is great camping and dunking a worm for the kids lake !
