St. Louis, MO — Build-A-Bear Workshop® has voluntarily recalled Love.Hugs.Peace lapel pins for high levels of lead that the pins contain, which violated the federal lead paint standards. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the nationwide product recall on August 4, 2011.
The product recall was initiated after discovering that the surface paints on the lapel pin contains excessive levels of lead, which is a direct violation of the federal lead paint standard.
“The 1.5 inch lapel pin features graphics of a heart, bear head, and peace sign all positioned in front of a globe. The words ‘Love.Hugs.Peace.’ appear at the bottom of the pin,” reported the CPSC.
Consumers are advised to return the lapel pin to any Build-A-Bear Workshop store to receive a $5 store coupon. Consumers can also contact Build-A-Bear for alternate instructions on receiving a refund.
