Vonage offers unlimited international mobile calling with Extensions

Home VoIP service provider Vonage has announced a new feature for customers who subscribe to its international calling service that allows them to make unlimited international calls from their mobile devices. Called Extensions, the service is free to existing Vonage subscribers.

A user can add any U.S. phone number to their Vonage account, whether that be a landline or a cellphone, and then be able to make international calling through Vonage's network. Likened to a virtual calling card, the Extensions service works by dialing an access number and then the international number to route the call through Vonage.

Vonage says that it is working on both iPhone and Android apps that will automate the dialing process and offer one-touch dialing from the contact list, so that users can make international calls quicker from their mobile devices. It says the apps should be available within the next few weeks.

In the meantime, Vonage customers can enable the Extensions service on their account now and use the international calling features immediately.
