Pa. plaza owner seeks vendors for his new outdoor flea market ...

The Mount Bethel Plaza Flea Market held a soft opening on Father’s Day and is pushing to add more vendors before a grand opening that organizers hope to schedule for the near future. The swap meet is located in Mount Bethel, Pa., just over the border from New Jersey, at a plaza owned by James Communale.

“We’re doing a lot of advertising , but it’s getting the vendors in that’s the challenge. We’re offering some free coupons in the newspapers , so I hope to get more interest.”

Communale says that he is patient and willing to let the market grow naturally. “We own the plaza here, and we’ve been in business for 20 years,” he says. “Getting people to know we are here may take a little time.”

The market is held “every Saturday and Sunday from spring to fall, weather permitting,” Communale says. Spaces are large at 10×20, and rental is only $12 per day. Concessions and rest rooms are available.

Currently the market is drawing 15 to 20 vendors, with a capacity of 60 or 70. “We have room to expand with another 60 or 70 spaces,” says Communale. “We have two and a half acres sitting idle in the back of the plaza, and with the economy the way it is, I think we’ll see a lot of people looking to shop and save a few dollars.”
