CHILDRENS HOSPITAL “Munch By Proxy” Season 3, Episode 10 – This week on Childrens Hospital we were introduced to Owen’s secret wife and their newborn child. Owen’s wife, Kelly, played by an adorable and hilarious Alicia Silverstone, comes into Childrens Hospital to have their child treated by the professionals for a mysterious disease. The hospital staff is shocked to discover that Owen had been keeping his secret family hidden from them this whole time.
I loved the bickering in the early part of the episode between Owen and Kelly. Kelly truly believes that Owen is too much of an incompetent idiot to be a doctor, and she suggests that at best he might be a veterinarian or a massage therapist. Just to “prove his a-hole wife” that he is a doctor, Owen meets with a team of Childrens Hospital experts and tries to solve the mystery of his baby’s illness. He doesn’t even know his kid’s name, but this isn’t about the baby, it’s about proving his wife wrong.
The revelation that Owen has a secret wife affects other relationships in the hospital, but rather than go the obvious route with Lola getting involved, it turns out that Chief is the one that Owen has to explain this to. With Owen preoccupied by being a husband and father, Chief was still in need of a date for an upcoming wedding. Creepy paramedic Chet steps in at just the right time to save (or ruin) the day.
Paramedic Chet’s psychotic stalker persona was cracking me up during this episode and once Chief stabbed him with Ecstasy, I about lost it watching him rave his way down the hallways of Childrens Hospital with Chief’s face tattooed on his back. He was just so funny from start to finish and now I want to scour the web to see if I can find a gif image of him, shirtless with glow sticks in hand, dancing to the beat in his own head.
Meanwhile, Valerie gets a Cat scan – meaning, she’s scanned by Cat – to screen for a brain tumor that might be the cause of her oozing, bloody ear. While she’s waiting for the results of Cat’s scan, she runs into Death (Michael McKean) and they play a game of chess to determine if she will live or die. Their conversation in the cafeteria was all pretty brilliant, but as a person who is regularly annoyed with how short chess games often end up being in film and TV, I loved Valerie’s “I can’t believe you fell for the four move checkmate!” line after she had beat Death at his game.
