Forever Young

Forever young, I want to be forever young. Remember that song? Well, song or not, it's the dream of almost everyone, as they strive to maintain what has to eventually slip away -- their youth. Ah youth, that flower that we hope never fades, that excitement, that joy, that fearlessness, that devil-may-care attitude towards life, that fleeting flame that flickers but for a moment and then fades. But until then, youth is to be enjoyed, and as George Bernard Shaw said, "The joys of youth are wasted on the young." Oh yes, if we knew then what we know now, we would be much better off. Or would we? Perhaps it's having to go through all the pitfalls, trials and tribulations of youth that makes us who we are when we mature... if we mature. How boring our lives would be if we did all the right things and never made any mistakes at all, mistakes that our parents made. What would be our lives if we carefully followed all the advice of our parents and guardians and did not stumble, fall, cut ourselves, love the wrong person, or take the wrong job? Youth is to be experienced and lived to the fullest. But there's also a flip side to youth; for some people refuse to leave their youth behind, refuse to grow old gracefully, refuse to let go of the irresponsibility of youth, and cling to it with the desperation of a politician. Many even go back in time to literally embrace youth, as we'll discuss right after these letters responding to Gay Times.

Why must we continue to reduce people's sexuality to sex acts? A gay man who has never had sex is a gay man nevertheless. A gay man who hasn't had sex in a year is still a gay man. This logic is only confusing for those who understand sexuality to be the default for everyone and homosexuality a deviation from that "natural" inclination that is rooted in all of us. This is a myth. I have a lot of female heterosexual friends who tell me that they've had anal sex. No straight man in Jamaica walks around and admits to that, but clearly the women aren't doing it to themselves. As oral sex was a few years ago, anal sex is only largely taboo in the public domain. An entirely different conversation is happening behind closed doors. But as usual, the hypocrisy of Jamaican people will prevent them admitting so.

What does someone's sexual orientation have to do with their participating in crime? Unless you are a rapist, I really don't think that it's important. If similar deductions were made about tall men, or short men, or men with a lisp, hopefully some rational person would point out that such conclusions are irrelevant. Gay people aren't sitting in a corner bitching about little things, I'm sure you have recognised that some of the most brilliant minds in this country are gay and lobbyists, as you call them. There is no 'straight lobby' because the rights of straight people have never been questioned. Of individuals yes, but not the entire community of heterosexuals.

79-year-old man charged with sexual assault in NJ | Newark Sex ...

For someone accused of sex crimes against a child, the social and legal ramifications can be devastating. A 79-year-old New Jersey man was arrested last week on allegations of sexual assault against two young girls running a lemonade stand. Witnesses told police officers that the man approached the stand and purchased a cup of lemonade from the young girls, and his actions quickly became questionable.

According to authorities, as the man drank his lemonade, he allegedly began to rub his groin and chest area repeatedly. When a neighbor approached the stand, the man purportedly got into his vehicle and quickly drove away. Police were able to use descriptions provided by witnesses and a partial tag number to identify him.

The officers were able to track the man to his residence on Pennsylvania Avenue. This was not the first time he has been involved in an incident of this nature. The New Jersey Sex Offenders Registry cited the man for having taken inappropriate pictures of juveniles in 2002. He was also convicted on charges of exposing his genitalia and touching himself in front of two young girls in 2005. He spent three years in jail, and was released in 2009.

Police contacted the man's parole officer, and he was subsequently charged with three counts of sexual assault. The man is now considered a Tier 2 sex offender, which means he is considered a moderate risk for committing repeat offenses. He is currently being held on $200,000 bail. Given his prior convictions and the nature of the allegations against him, the man will likely require a solid legal defense to negotiate his sentencing and ensure that he receives a fair day in court.
