Ford recalls 1.1M F-150, F-250, Lincoln pickups

Ford is recalling 1.1 million 1997-2004 pickups because the gas tanks can fall off and cause a fire.
The recall covers certain Ford F-150 (1997-2004), F-250 (1997-99, less than 8,500 lbs. GVW) and Lincoln Blackwood (2002-03) trucks.
The recalled trucks were sold in cold-weather states where salt is used in winter. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said today on its website that the straps holding up the tanks can rust, causing them to fall to the ground. The tanks can rupture and cause a fire.
Ford says it has eight reports of the tanks falling, resulting in three injuries.
Ford dealers will replace the straps starting next month but will make a temporary fix if a truck is brought in before the new parts are available.
The affected trucks are those originally sold or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia, according to the NHTSA site.
It is another large recall by Ford for corrosion issues. A year ago, Ford recalled 600,000 of its 1998-2003 Windstar minivans in snow states and Canada because corrosion could cause the rear axle to break. Then earlier this year, it recalled 425,288 1999-2003 Windstars sold or registered in 22 cold-weather states and D.C. for possible corrosion of the front subframe brackets and mounts that could cause them to separate, resulting in loss of control.
