BRYAN VERA: "I'M COMING TO WIN, SO ANDY LEE BETTER BE READY"

"It's going to be in Atlantic City on October 1st. We will be the co-main event of the Martinez/Barker card...We got 10 weeks to work and get ready to beat Andy, so expect me to look the best that I have ever looked mentally and physically...I feel like I'm stronger than Andy Lee, but of course he thinks he's more technical and more skilled, so we are going to work on a couple of things to throw him off. We're still going to be strong and if we have to be nasty, we're going to be nasty, but we're going to do some things to mix it up," stated super middleweight contender Bryan Vera as he talked about his upcoming rematch with Andy Lee on the undercard of Sergio Martinez vs. Darren Barker. Check it out!

PC: Congratulations on signing with Lou Dibella. How does it feel to have a stable situation as far as your promotional situation goes?

BV: It feels good, man. He is probably one of the best promoters out there and it's good to finally have a place for me, so it feels good to have enough time to prepare for a big fight like this. We will have an 8-10 week camp. I think if I have that kind of time to prepare for a fight, I will give anybody trouble, so it should work out great man.

PC: How did this deal come about? How did you hook up with Lou?

BV: After this last fight, he was talking to my manager, David Watson, just about the Andy Lee fight. Then we won the fight and he said he was looking to have us up under him because of the fact that, win or lose, I always put up a good fight. Of course we always come out to win, but he felt he would be able to give me enough time to prepare for fights and if that was the case, I would be dangerous for anybody. That's just how it came about, man, and I haven't even talked to him personally myself. I let Dave do all of that, so hopefully I talk to him soon. You know, I just get ready to fight; that's what I like to do.

PC: You told me you wanted to go back to working on your strength and conditioning between fights and that that was something you had gotten away from. Have you been doing that here lately?

BV: We did, man. We just went back to grinding and running stadiums and pulling tires and flipping tires and just getting nasty. We're making sure we are putting in the work that we are supposed to be putting in. We got a little lazy and were just running long distance.

Duddy's fearless fighting style — he finished with a 29-2 record and 18 knockouts — was a big draw here, and he stood to earn more than $100000 in a planned March bout against another Irish boxer, Andy Lee. HBO was going to televise the match and

Andy Lee vs. Brian Vera on Martinez-Barker undercard ... - Boxing News

This is an important fight for the 27-year-old Lee, because he’s been spinning his wheels ever since that fight facing almost exclusively 2nd tier opposition. Lee has won his last 11 fights, but it’s incredible how many years have gone by without him stepping it up against higher caliber opposition. It’s only been recent that Lee finally started taking on some quality fighters in Craig McEwan and Alex Bunema.

The thing is nothing has really changed with Lee other than him getting older. He’s still basically the same fighter he was when he was taken out in the 7th by Vera. Lee still stands straight up, and is still just as vulnerable to getting rocked by big shots as he was in the Vera fight.

It was hoped that Lee’s trainer Emanuel Steward would teach the southpaw Lee some boxing skills to keep him from getting hit so much, but Lee still prefers to slug it out rather than to box. Recently, Lee struggled badly in a 10th round KO win over McEwan last March. Lee was hit early and often in the fight in a very poor performance. Lee was lucky that McEwan wasn’t much of a puncher because he would have knocked Lee out if he had a little bit more power.

Vera had a string of bad luck after beating Lee in 2008, losing his next four out of five fights after that bout. However, recently Vera has turned things around with wins over Sergio Mora and Eloy Suarez this year. Vera is looking very powerful and hard to beat right now.

I don’t see this fight being any different than the first fight. Lee will do well early on against Vera but then start to fade around the 5th or 6th rounds. Vera will then quickly wear Lee down with his heavy right hand shots and then take him out with a devastating right hand to the head. Hopefully, Lee doesn’t get hurt too badly in this fight, because he may be open to changing his fighting style after this loss.

Best wishes to Brian but some people on these sites know nothing about boxing. Lee wins here easy and if anyone knows any Irish you’ll know if you beat them once you were lucky but you sure as hell don’t beat them twice. Lee has pushed for this rematch because he wanted to put record straight. I’d bet my house that lee will be ready this time.
